Nelson Mandela has rightly said that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

We completely agree with Mandela. Education works like a magic wand to obliterate all inequalities that exist within a society. In Academic Care, interns at HOPE teaches children from class 1st to 12th belonging to different backgrounds. We lay emphasis on providing the practical application of knowledge. Our main focus is on Communicative English and Life Skills.

Around 50% of students do not even get primary education, and those do, they have to abandon it due to financial reasons. Further, the government-funded schools are in a devastating condition. The infrastructure and resources are unbelievably poor. Poor children attend these schools because their pocket cannot pay for more than this. They do not get even 0.1% of the desired quality of education. This results in early drop-outs, moral degradation and wastage of resources.

In our Academic Care programme, we attend to each of the above-stated issues. We go beyond what is written into textbooks. We develop our own curriculum of Communicative English, Life Skills and Mental Health to provide the best quality to children through Learn by fun method.

Following Are the Salient Features of HOPE’s Academic Care Programme:

  • Our curriculum covers a varied range of key areas like academics, sports, general awareness, communication and personality development, moral values and language.

  •  In scholastic education, we give the foremost focus on teaching Communicative English and Life Skills. English is taught to children as a language which simplifies communication, rather than a mere subject.

  •  Other than these subjects, we try to develop reading habits in children. We have news reading sessions followed by storytelling sessions where children learn about the major events happening across national and international borders, and through the short stories, we teach children the basic moral values.

In the cities where we have launched our Academic Care programme, we have been able to educate 80-90% of our targeted children who could neither read nor write their own name hitherto, but now have become proficient in both reading and writing. Keeping the material aspect aside, the most crucial thing that we have been able to achieve through this campaign is their confidence. We have been able to instil a ray of hope into them, which allows them to dream big, which allows them to see the wonderful world out there!
